Springers go 3-1 this week; Dollar Night at the park Friday

COLD SPRING, Minn.The Cold Spring Springers went 3-1 this past week to raise their season record to 12-3 overall and 6-0 in the Lakewood League. Cold Spring defeated Sartell 6-0 on Wednesday, June 6, in Cold Spring; lost 2-1 at Kimball on Saturday afternoon, June 9; defeated St. Martin 10-5 on Saturday night, June 9, in Cold Spring; and defeated Jimmy’s 10-1 on Sunday, June 10, in Sauk Rapids.

 

Zach Femrite pitched a complete game, allowed one hit and only three base runners, struck out 16 and did not walk a batter in the win over Sartell. Rick Burtzel was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Ryan Lieser was 2-for-3 as well to lead the Springers. Ryan Holthaus and Steve Huls each finished with a pair of RBI.

 

Rick Burtzel pitched a complete game but took the loss for the Springers at Kimball, who got three hits from Gary Kiess and two apiece from Ben Griffin and Mike Burtzel. Kimball scored single runs in the second and sixth innings, while the Springers scored their lone run in the fifth inning.

 

The Springers bounced back Saturday night with a 10-5 win over St. Martin for Merchant’s Night. Darren Heying was 2-for-4 with two RBI, Ben Griffin was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI, Zach Femrite was 1-for-3 with two RBI, and Rick Burtzel was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Winning pitcher Andy Bulson pitched eight innings, allowing three runs on six hits and collecting five strike outs.

 

Mike Burtzel, Darren Heying, Ben Griffin, Rick Burtzel and Ryan Holthaus each had two hits in the win over Jimmy’s. The Springers led 3-1 until they scored six runs in the top of the sixth inning, including a two-run homer by Griffin. Zach Reif pitched a complete game, scattering five hits and four strike outs on the mound.

 

The Springers are scheduled to host the Sauk Rapids Cyclones at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, in Cold Spring; host Hampton at 8 p.m. Friday, June 15, in Cold Spring; travel to Clear Lake at 4 p.m. Saturday, June 16; and then travel to Ultimate Sports at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 17, in St. Cloud.

 

On Friday, June 15, the Springers will host Hampton and have Dollar Night at the ball park. Marnanteli’s and Gluek Brewing Co. are sponsoring this event, with Marnanteli’s pizza and Gluek products available for $1. Admission to the game is also $1.
