Springers go 2-1 last week

COLD SPRING, Minn. – The Cold Spring Springers went 2-1 this past week to raise their season record to 31-8 overall and 13-1 in the Lakewood League. The Springers defeated the Brainerd Bees 8-1 on Wednesday, July 18, in Brainerd; lost 5-2 to the Minneapolis Angels on Friday, July 20, in Cold Spring; and then defeated St. Louis Park 9-7 on Saturday, July 21, in Cold Spring.

 

Zach Femrite (12-1) collected 17 strikeouts and walked two in an 8-1 complete-game victory over the Brainerd Bees in Lakewood League action. Ben Griffin had four hits for Cold Spring.

 

Steve Huls and Ryan Holthaus each went 2-for-4 with an RBI for Cold Spring in the 5-2 loss to St. Louis Park.

 

Zach Femrite went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI and also got the save as the Springers beat St. Louis Park 9-7. Ben Griffin was 2-for-3 and Gary Kiess tripled and drove in two runs. Andy Bulson (7-3) started and got the win.

 

The Springers have four scheduled games this week to close the regular season. They will travel to Delano for a 7:30 p.m. game on Wednesday, July 25; host Dundas at 8 p.m. Friday, July 27; and then host Minnetonka at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 28, for a doubleheader.

 

The seven-team Region 7B Tournament will be played in Cold Spring this year and the Springers are the top seed and will play their first game on Saturday, Aug. 4, at 4 p.m.
