Springers roll into state tournament

COLD
SPRING, Minn. – The Cold Spring Springers defeated
the Blaine Fusion 11-0 in seven innings on Saturday, Aug. 11, in Cold Spring,
in the championship game of the Section 7B playoffs.
In
the win over Blaine, the Springers scored five runs each
in the top of the first and second innings to take a quick 10-0 lead. Rick Burtzel and Ryan Holthaus each
drove in four runs, and Zach Femrite (15-2), Chris Butala and Andy Bulson combined
on a seven-inning, one-hit shutout. Darren Heying
added two hits and an RBI for the Springers.
With
the win, Cold Spring improves to 36-10 overall on the season. Cold Spring’s 36
wins so far this season are the most of any of the 43 Class B teams in the
state.
The
Springers open state tournament play at 7:30 p.m.
Friday, Aug. 17, in Norwood against Section 3B runner-up Chaska (25-13). The Springers are making their state-record 46th state
tournament appearance and state-record 20th straight appearance (1988-2007).
